For the People, Not Buy the People
Image_data20121011-2718-1u50mor

Describe your work and why you think it could inspire people to act on this issue.

The piece is an homage to Lincoln and a positive affirmation that the voice of "the people" should stand above moneyed interests. With iconic symbols and a phrase that represents the American ideal, I have created an image that can be instantly understood and widely applied.

What do you think is the biggest issue of money in politics today?

A healthy democracy exists to further the interests of its citizenry. Big money in politics has the potential to interfere with this primary function by placing the interests of large donors over those of the people.

Corporations are not people and moneyed interests should not be allowed to pollute the democratic system.

Citizen United is for Plutocracy (Government rule by the wealthy) and not Democracy. I my eyes this is nothing short of treason against our country.

I really appreciate the directness, and the simplicity. As you said, it is right to the point and both words and image are immediately understood. Nothing superfluous or ambiguous. Great design!

Our forefathers tried to keep this country from being controlled by big money by setting up three parts of the government meant to prevent the others from becoming influenced by them. We succeeded for many years, but are now failing with the House overrun by corporate bullies, the Supreme Court in their pocket, most of the Senate as well, and a president who wants to "compromise": with them. Also a candidate who is one of them himself. The love of money is still the root of all evil.
